I have very ambitious goals in various disciplines: Capoeira, Hand balancing and gymnastic strength training.
The past four years, I had been training myself with good results, but I realized I was stagnating in my progress despite my best efforts to guide myself.
For the past five years I routinely watched Amir’s various YouTube videos for motivation, and I decided it was time to contact Amir in June of 2013 for online coaching.
Training with Amir online has been the single most effective strategy I have used towards achieving my goals, and I wish only that I had started with him sooner.

After a few months of training with Amir, he has taught me how to better utilize my strength in proper alignment with the movements I am learning. My joints are stronger, I am more mobile in every area, I am stronger and leaner while still maintaining my weight. One thing I need to mention is that I had an ac joint injury come to the surface from the past. Through Amir's guidance and joint movements it is now healed and stronger then it was before. Since working with Amir I went from no handstand ability at all really and parts of my body where frozen from previous bouts of powerlifting and attempts at Bodybuilding with no mobility involved in it. My body is more balanced in many ways I have more flexibility and mobility and joints of steel. My body is capable of executing strength through many ranges of motion now with ease and efficiency. Training with Amir makes the task of day to day seem like a breeze. Thank you for helping me get in tuned with my body.

I was already a bodyworker and an ambitious practitioner of Yoga and Capoeira when I met Amir, but despite my level of experience within those disciplines, I was struggling with chronic injuries and joint instability because of the way I was working with my body. Chiropractors, massage therapists, and PTs were full of remedial advice and ideas but were failing to address the root cause of what was standing between me and my goals. Amir was able to insightfully tailor a program that addressed my physical 'blind spots' directly. Working in this way was really challenging, but so effective and targeted. I could have wasted my time for years trying to push forward with the training I had been doing, and never allowed my body to reach the epiphanies that have already expanded its capacities in just two cycles.
Beyond the depth and effectiveness of his programs, Amir's perspective on health and fitness, and his relationship with his own body are really infectious and just inspiring to be around. He doesn't teach by making rules or schedules; he simply embodies what is possible when you commit to your own development, and refuses to buy into whatever excuses or demotivated stories you carry around to hold yourself back.
Especially as a woman, it's really easy to slip into perspectives that center around aesthetics and lose sight of the true meaning of fitness. Many trainers reinforce those perspectives through their own attitudes and, unfortunately, their training programs, which means that a lot of people are out there training out of guilt, shame or a lack of self-love. People are ignoring the wisdom in their bodies in the name of fitting them into a certain box, or seeing a certain number on the scale, and like me, ending up with injury or imbalance. Working with Amir is not necessarily about getting skinny. It's about expanding into your body's true potential for vibrancy and power.

About 4 years ago, I had a shoulder, lower back, and foot injury sustained from bad weight lifting practices, and wear and tear from practicing capoeira and kickboxing. Mestre Parafina put me on a specific FOM program that not only increased my body flexibility and control, but also gave me back shoulder and lower back mobility so I could again perform strength training and practice martial arts. In addition, he improved my handstand hold from 6 to 30 seconds and greatly improved my physical performance overall . I was particularly fond of his static hold flows and hip mobility exercises. Because of his program I feel much more of a body awareness and unity. There is still a long way for me to go, but I trust in Mestre’s excellent programs to outline the path. His videos are so well done and instructive that upon each viewing I see new specifics which I need to incorporate. his feedback is also encouraging but also straightforward and honest, demanding and driving me to a higher level of performance. FOM has truly changed my life and outlook toward physical fitness. Through his program, it amazes me that he was able to show me the value of body balance and core integrity through videos exchanged online. Mestre outlines and gives a clear path. It is then for you to travel. I guarantee that if you follow him, you will be more than satisfied with the results and the rewards that you will sow for years after with what you will learn from a true master and practitioner of movement.

I started studying Capoeira with Amir Solsky at his Capoeira Los Angeles Academy about 6 months ago. After meeting Amir , I knew he was the perfect trainer for me. I grew up training and performing ballet, tap, and jazz. I did this for many years and then I took a short break in my early 30's. I never gave up the thought that one day I would meet the right fitness coach. I was looking for a fitness coach who was experienced and understood nutrition, body alignment and body movement.

"My initial intention for joining Amir's classes was to lose weight. I had recently graduated from a boarding school where I gained nearly 50 pounds. I tried diet and exercising on my own but I never got results that lasted more than a few weeks..... but for me, the real results came with a combination of both the capoeira and strength.... In working with Amir.. I have gained the strength and ability to do so many things I never thought I'd be able to. From back walk-overs and various flips to something so "simple" as a handstand.
Above all, the most important thing I have gained from these sessions with Amir is confidence. Coming back to a town after 2 years and being 50 lbs heavier does some damage on ones confidence! I realized that I may never fit into those 0-2 jeans that I did when I was 17, but I wasn't meant to. He helped me realize that a number on the scale doesn't reflect what a body looks like! I have always had a lot of trouble losing weight and keeping it off. But thanks to Amir I have finally found what works for me, and after as little as 8 months of diet and training I was already in the best shape of my life.
I had dieted before, but nothing really ever worked for me. The effectiveness of the diet plan and training program combined was really unbelievable.
Before starting with Amir I was trying to exercise at the gym to lose weight. Before I realized it, a year had passed and no matter what or how much I'd train I had reached a plateau at 222lb.
It was rather disheartening and frustrating that I just could not lose weight, and so I figured I should start trying alternative solutions to my regular training. That's exactly how I met Amir. From then on I just followed the prescribed diet, and consistently showed up for the Sessions. Sooner than I would have imagined I was back in shape.
In just a little over 1 week I was seeing amazing results and have included the scale pictures here which were taken during that week going from 202lb to 195lb. That's 7lb in one week, an astonishing result especially breaking that "200" mark!
It has now been a little over a year since I weighted 222lb, and looking back I'm really happy with the current results. I definitely feel a thousand times better than I did, more confident, and ready for whatever might happen. I still train hard and follow my diet (although more loosely) and every day that passes by I'm still bewildered and amazed by how Amir pushes his limits, and the limits of his clients and friends further and further every day. Our constant Joint Preparation work, Muscle Endurance, Stretching and Mobilization exercises which are always within the limits of what you can do comfortably really do give the wanted results. After this relatively short journey I actually have Muscle definition like I had only ever dreamed of, and I finally--probably for the first time in my life--actually see real results that crown all of the hard work I put into my body.

Simply put…Amir changed my life. For years I tried various diets, determined to lose weight but one thing after another had me on a roller coaster of losing it temporarily to later on gaining it back again. I had gone to the gym since I was 16 years old and over the years I always had trouble figuring out which machines to use and how many reps were needed to get that ‘dream’ body… in the end I lost interest. I was at my heaviest weight when I met Amir 10 years ago and that is when everything changed, and a new exciting world opened up to me.
When I first started training with him I had many physical limitations with weak ankles, knees, and wrists that at one point had me in braces during the sessions. I was overweight and tired quickly which made many of the moves at first very hard on my body, and at one point I was not sure I would have the strength to do any low floor work, acrobatics, or extended workouts. Amir taught me about ‘organic’ workouts that were more natural by using one’s body weight in various routines and the best part is you can do it anywhere, so most of the time I take advantage of the outdoors and prefer the beach or park over a gym. After working one on one with Amir first on a lifestyle diet choice he then customized joint preparation and mobility exercises to not only begin my healing process and get stronger but to also prevent future injury in my workouts. I saw results quickly and it became addictive.
Amir is highly knowledgeable of body movement, various angles that work each muscle to its optimal potential, and what it takes produce maximum results. He then applies it to where you are currently at and prepares you for where you will go…but only if you want it and are willing to work hard to get it! On another note Amir is very supportive of the emotions involved with reaching your goals whether it is losing weight or getting stronger and going to the next level. He is not only leading you but cheering you on when you need it most. He cares about you the whole way through and that alone is what makes him special. Amir makes the dream a reality of having great fitness and ability no matter where or when you start as long as you commit and do your best you will see results.
Since meeting Amir I have developed a deep appreciation and a new understanding for health, fitness, and what the human body is capable of producing with hard work and determination. I have learned that eating healthy and training is fun and a way of life. I see amazing results not only in my physical ability to do complex moves I never dreamed of being able to do but I continue to lose weight consistently and for the first time truly believe I will reach the ‘dream’ body.

Simply put…Amir changed my life. For years I tried various diets, determined to lose weight but one thing after another had me on a roller coaster of losing it temporarily to later on gaining it back again. I had gone to the gym since I was 16 years old and over the years I always had trouble figuring out which machines to use and how many reps were needed to get that ‘dream’ body… in the end I lost interest. I was at my heaviest weight when I met Amir 10 years ago and that is when everything changed, and a new exciting world opened up to me.
When I first started training with him I had many physical limitations with weak ankles, knees, and wrists that at one point had me in braces during the sessions. I was overweight and tired quickly which made many of the moves at first very hard on my body, and at one point I was not sure I would have the strength to do any low floor work, acrobatics, or extended workouts. Amir taught me about ‘organic’ workouts that were more natural by using one’s body weight in various routines and the best part is you can do it anywhere, so most of the time I take advantage of the outdoors and prefer the beach or park over a gym. After working one on one with Amir first on a lifestyle diet choice he then customized joint preparation and mobility exercises to not only begin my healing process and get stronger but to also prevent future injury in my workouts. I saw results quickly and it became addictive.
Amir is highly knowledgeable of body movement, various angles that work each muscle to its optimal potential, and what it takes produce maximum results. He then applies it to where you are currently at and prepares you for where you will go…but only if you want it and are willing to work hard to get it! On another note Amir is very supportive of the emotions involved with reaching your goals whether it is losing weight or getting stronger and going to the next level. He is not only leading you but cheering you on when you need it most. He cares about you the whole way through and that alone is what makes him special. Amir makes the dream a reality of having great fitness and ability no matter where or when you start as long as you commit and do your best you will see results.
Since meeting Amir I have developed a deep appreciation and a new understanding for health, fitness, and what the human body is capable of producing with hard work and determination. I have learned that eating healthy and training is fun and a way of life. I see amazing results not only in my physical ability to do complex moves I never dreamed of being able to do but I continue to lose weight consistently and for the first time truly believe I will reach the ‘dream’ body.

I met with Amir June 20th or so. It is now Aug. 3rd. I have lost 12 lbs and countless inches. I appreciate all the guidance he gave me during our first 3 weeks working together. I have a complicated issues of pre-diabetes and my body is constantly in a state of readjusting. I feel much better and my energy levels are way up. I look forward to continuing to lose weight and inches and regain my health. I will be seeing my Kaiser doc late August where we will redo some blood test....more then!
